Council On Aging Available Services

The following is a list of services offered. Unfortunately, some services are not available in all areas of the parish and several have a waiting list. For more information on avaliable services call 985-839-4535

Information & Assistance

A service that provides information and assistance on opportunities and services available to seniors within the community. Information & Assistance helps seniors in assessing problems and linking them to available resources. One recent example was helping individuals choose a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan.

Homemaker

Provides assistance to homebound persons having difficulty with preparing meals, light housekeeping and shopping.

Nutrition Services: Home Delivered Meals

Home delivered, nutritionally balanced, meals served to homebound persons, age 60 and over, who live alone, and are unable to leave their residence without assistance or to prepare proper, nutritious meals for themselves. These meals are provided 5 days per week. Please call (985)839-4535 for more information.

Telephoning

Homebound seniors receive a pre-arranged telephone call to provide comfort and assistance.

Medicare Part D Counseling and Enrollment Assistance

Individuals aged 60 and above who have questions concerning Medicare Part D or need assistance in enrolling in a Part D plan can schedule an appointment with a trained counselor. Please call (985)839-4535 to schedule an appointment or for more information.

Recreation

Individual or group activities such as bingo, handicrafts, general interest programs, education, religious activities, and special events that are offered at Senior Centers and Nutrition Sites throughout the area.

Nutrition Education

This program is to promote better health by providing accurate culturally sensitive nutrition, physical fitness, and health as it relates to nutrition, information, and instruction to individuals, groups and caregivers

Caregiver Support Program

Offers support to individuals caring for a relative or loved one. Services include Information, Assistance, and Respite Care.

Nutrition Services: Congregate Nutrition Services

Provides a hot, nutritionally balanced meal in a group setting daily. Monday thru Friday. Various activities are planned for seniors attending the nutrition sites. Nutrition Services Sites are located in Franklinton (985)839-4535, Bogalusa (985)732-6869, Pine (985)848-2286 and Angie (985)986-4333. Meals must be ordered the day before you plan to attend.

Transportation

Transportation is provided to seniors residing within Washington Parish. Trips are provided to medical facilities, shopping centers, senior centers and many other destinations. Advance reservations are required. Please call (985)732-6868 for more information.
